Our purpose
To inspire and motivate to the green transition
The purpose of Green Church is, from a church-based and theological perspective, to inspire and motivate individuals, Congregations, Churches, Cemeteries, Christian organizations, and Schools with a Christian value foundation to take shared responsibility for the climate and environmental challenges facing the world.

Main goals
The mail goals of Green Chruch is to:
- To maintain and promote green engagement and encourage changed behavior towards greater climate responsibility and sustainability among churches, cemeteries, Christian organizations, and schools with a Christian value foundation.
- To contribute to awareness of actionable opportunities related to global climate change and environmental challenges—especially in relation to theological reflections and perspectives.
- To be a relevant green actor, visible both in church- and non-church-related green networks, and to contribute perspectives on climate and environmental issues within churches.
Our theological foundation
Rooted in the christian faith
Most parts of Danish society are gradually engaging in a green transition and becoming more environmentally conscious. However, the Danish churches differ in one significant way from other organizations, institutions, and businesses: the churches are founded on faith and have a core mission to proclaim the Gospel. Green Church’s work for the green transition is therefore rooted in this foundation—both theologically and practically.
Our theological foundation reflects a perspective that already exists within the churches and in the classical confessions of faith. It should not be seen as a replacement for church theology or doctrine, but rather as a supplement.
Below you find the file ‘Green Church Teological Foundation’ – it is only avalible in Danish.
